After reading all the back and forth and recent press about gun control, our main emphasis at this point should be mental illness awareness control. Would any of the mass shooters in the 20 years (or maybe ever) have passed a well designed sanity test?
So while I fail to understand the need for the 2nd amendment need of protection for some of these weapons, gun control is still a slippery slope. If we only get one "shot" (sorry) at this, why not "attack" (sorry, again) full force from a standpoint of designing measures to keep certain weapons out of the hands of the the loonies?
It won't be fool proof and some will get their hands on weapons by illegal means but maybe we can limit the carnage. At the same time, we have also made attempts to identify those in society that would harm themselves and others by other means other than a Bushmaster.
And if you think for a minute that mental testing to buy certain weapons is unconstitutional, if administered equally to all, no ones rights are singled out to be violated. Similar to the invasion of privacy doled out by the TSA in order to board an airplane.
